Setting goals is one thing; achieving them is another. The SMART framework—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—is a powerful tool, but how do you make it work for you? Start by getting ultra-specific about what you want. Instead of saying, “I want to get fit,” say, “I want to run a 5k in under 30 minutes.” The clearer your goal, the easier it is to create a plan.

Next, ensure your goal is measurable. Ask yourself: How will I know when I’ve achieved this? For the 5k example, it could be timing your runs or tracking your progress using a fitness app. This step keeps you accountable and allows you to celebrate small wins along the way.
